Tips on Upgrading and Testing CounterPoint

Many merchants and partners test NCR Counterpoint upgrades prior to upgrading the live site, especially when upgrading from Counterpoint V7 to NCR Counterpoint V8.  A few merchants have reported negative effects on their NCR Customer Connect data, due to the way testing was conducted. To avoid these effects, please review the following tips prior to testing the upgrade:
  • Run the upgrade test on at TEST system (not a live system): Use the merchant's NCR Counterpoint registration.ini file and database, not another merchant's files. Verify the system does not have the NCR Customer Connect application installed. If NCR Customer Connect is installed, review the instructions below on how to uninstall/disable it.
  • If you MUST test on a LIVE system: You MUST uninstall/disable CustomerConnect on the LIVE system before running the upgrade test.

To uninstall NCR Customer Connect on a NCR Counterpoint SQL system:
Under Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the program named CounterPoint Integration Agent. After completing your test you may reapply the CounterPoint Integration Agent on the system by running the installation found at the following location. http://www.radiantretailapps.com/Services/Installers/RadiantIntegrationAgent.msi

To uninstall NCR Customer Connect on a Counterpoint V7 (Windows or Linux) system:
Uninstalling the program is not available. Please
rename the batch file that transports your data to NCR Customer Connect, CustConn.bat, found in your top level directory. After completing your test you may rename the file back to CustConn.bat, so data can be transported to NCR Customer Connect again.

If the tips above are not followed, negative effects will be seen in the NCR Customer Connect data.
For example, i
f NCR Customer Connect is installed/running during the NCR Counterpoint upgrade testing:

  • The data used to run the test will be uploaded and processed by NCR Customer Connect. This results in unwanted customer and sales data within the NCR Customer Connect account.
  • Email may be sent to unintended recipients.
  • The number of email complaints may increase due to inappropriate recipients which can affect email reputation.
  • A monthly bill increase can occur due to an inappropriate increase in the number of contacts.
If you've already installed a test copy of NCR Counterpoint V8.4.2 - 8.4.6 on a live system review the additional instructions below.

Additional Instructions:

The NCR Counterpoint installation for versions 8.4.2 - 8.4.6 include the NCR Customer Connect service. If you install any one of these versions of Counterpoint onto a live system as a test it will uninstall the previous version of NCR Customer Connect and install a new version of the service. It will begin sending data for the new 8.4 system (that is not yet in production) and disable the real data from being sent to the NCR Customer Connect host. To point the new version of NCR Customer Connect to the production version of NCR Counterpoint, follow the instructions below.

Note: If the test copy of 8.4.2 - 8.4.6 becomes the production copy, you will need to reverse this once the 8.4.2 - 8.4.6 version goes live.

If the live site is using Counterpoint V7 and the test is on NCR Counterpoint V8.4.2 - 8.4.6:
  • Navigate to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
  • DISABLE (do not stop) the Radiant.Retail.Hosted.Service
  • Verify the Radiant Integration Agent service is enabled and running – this service communicates the V7 data
If the live site is using NCR Counterpoint V8 and the test is on NCR Counterpoint V8.4.2 - 8.4.6:
  • Navigate to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  • Remove the CounterPoint Integration Agent
  • Delete all Hosted Apps folders
  • Verify the InstallPath registry value:

For 64 bit systems the registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Synchronics\CounterPoint\8.0\
Verify the InstallPath registry value points to where the live system data is installed. For example, C:\ Program Files\CounterPoint\

For 32 bit systems the registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synchronics\CounterPoint\8.0\
Verify the InstallPath registry value points to where the live system data is installed. For example, C:\ Program Files\CounterPoint\
