Please log on to www.ithacatasteofthenation.org and enter COFFEE (all CAPITALS) as your promotional code to receive a $20 discount per ticket to the June 17th Taste of the Nation event. “Taste of the Nation” is a local event sponsored by the national organization “Share Our Strength”, which is dedicated to fighting childhood hunger by funding innovative local food programs. The local programs supported by this year’s event are (follow the hyperlinks to visit their sites to learn more):
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s Backpack Program : By providing children who are at risk of hunger with a bag of nutritious food each Friday throughout the school year, this program attempts to help children return to school on Monday ready to learn.
Ithaca Community Harvest - Healthy Snack Program : By providing fresh local fruit and vegetable snacks, this program improves nutrition and educates students about healthy diet choices. Currently, this program is focused on the Beverly J. Martin Elementary School, but seeks to expand.
Cornell Cooperative Extension's "Healthy Food For All" Program : By subsidizing the purchase of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares, and accepting food stamps, this program makes fresh, local, organically-grown produce affordable for lower-income families.
The event hosts 25 local restaurants serving tapas-sized portions of their finest cuisine; each restaurant is paired with one of 25 local wineries or breweries. The food, wine and beer are always amazing, and you can go back to your favorites as many times as you wish for the entire evening. Everything at the event is donated, allowing 100% of the proceeds to go to charity.
* The event is on Tuesday, June 17th at the Athletics & Events Center at Ithaca College.
* It begins at 6:30 (5:30 for VIP ticket holders), with a live band (Little Joe & The Big Shots) from 9:00 – 10:30PM.
* There is a Silent Auction throughout the night.
* Using our ambassador code, tickets are $80 for general admission and $130 for VIP admission (a champagne reception with the participating chefs, vintners, brewers, and corporate sponsors).
* The tax deductible contribution for each ticket is $40.
