Protect Your Systems from Cyber Criminals
Avoid Potential Processor Fines
Participate in Our Risk Assessment and Prevention Program
Before the Holiday Season

CCS Retail Systems and NCR/Radiant Systems have a Program to help you assess the risk of Cybercrime in your CPSQL or CPV7 Computer Systems and Software.  This program comes from Ernie Floyd, Director of Data Security and Compliance, NCR/Radiant Systems.

We agree with NCR/Radiant that this is a very real threat for any Retail Organization. If your organization’s security is breached you risk fines of $ 5,000 to $ 50,000 per incident from your Credit Card Processors, and the loss of card privileges. This could result in the loss of your business - in the worst case.

You may have seen the unfortunate situations in the eastern USA with cyber intrusion in recent months. These Retailers were assed fines in excess of $ 50,000 by their processors.

With the Busy Holiday Season Coming and its Higher Transaction Volumes these Risks are Even More Critical to Prevent.

7 Point Risk Assessment Audit

What we are proposing is a 7 point program, suggested by NCR/Radiant, as a thorough review of your computer systems servers, stations, and back-office systems.  This will help provide a Secure Baseline Environment by eliminating the most common sources of breaches.  This is much more than just a virus prevention program.

Combining this Program with the PCI DSS transaction security NCR/Radiant offers with current software releases, will give you a very strong hedge against cybercriminals and the financial harm they may cause you.

Our Program costs include the 7 point review tasks and a report of our findings and recommendations.  Any products and services required to implement our recommendations will be billed separately.  You can use your CCS Support Packs for either of these services but not for any products needed.

We urge you to participate in this program as soon as possible.  To get started email us at [email protected] with the Subject: CCS Risk Assessment Program.

You Are at Risk

Criminals continue to target the small business community to steal credit card data.  Data security is a major concern for the entire retail industry.  NCR/Radiant Systems and CCS Retail Systems continues to focus great attention on this industry need.  Data security is constantly evolving; therefore it is critical to monitor your environment to ensure it is protected.

Below is a list of common vulnerabilities that criminals can exploit to steal credit cards from a retailer’s environment.

• Running a payment application that is not PABP or PA-DSS validated (versions of CounterPoint below 7.5.12 or CounterPoint SQL below 8.3.3)
• Lack of a properly configured hardware firewall
• Remote access tools left in listening mode
• Vendor default accounts and passwords
• Lack of up-to-date antivirus protection
• Internet browsing from the computers that runs CounterPoint

We encourage you to work with CCS Retail to determine if any of these risks exist in your business and let us help you immediately provide an action plan for improving your protection.

PCI DSS Card Processing Compliance Risks

As you may be aware, it is your responsibility, as a merchant, to ensure your entire payment environment is in compliance with data security requirements.  To help you understand your responsibilities in complying with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), review their published document entitled: “Ten Common Myths of PCI DSS.”  You can find more details on PCI DSS requirements at http://www.pcisecuritystandards.org.
