What to do in your garden this month:
- Spring is not that far away! Now is the time to plan your beds, test your soil and buy your seeds!
- To protect plants from cold snaps, mulch and water dry beds well before a freeze. Well insulated and moist soil will not freeze as easily as bare, dry soil.
- Tender plants should be brought into a protected area during a frost, or covered (old sheets will work!). We also carry 12x10 sheets of frost cloth all winter!
- Check vegetables, annuals and evergreen perennials for slug, pillbug and caterpillar damage throughout the winter. If you're not sure what you have, bring us a sample to diagnose!
- Finish (or start!) planting your fall bulbs! We still have lots of daffodils and Dutch iris that can be planted outside.

Winter gardening is just as exciting as spring! One of our favorite combinations is ornamental cabbage, alyssum and snapdragons.

- Color: Alyssum, indian paintbrush, larkspur, pansies, columbine, poppies, snapdragons, dianthus, cyclamen, violas, stock, foxglove, phlox, ornamental kale and cabbage.
- Vegetables: Onion sets, leeks, kale, artichokes and Swiss chard.
- Herbs: Mint, salad burnett, thyme, lavender, chives, oregano, chamomile, rue, fennel, rosemary, scented geraniums, and parsley.
- A new shipment of tillandsia will be here next week, along with grapewood and wire for mounting them!
- Seeds: We have a new supply of Livingston seeds! All 2012 Livingston brand seeds are now half off! Look for them at the front counter.
