Swiss Family Spotlight
With this New Year we begin a new segment of Swiss Links. Each Month we will spotlight a person or department of the Swiss Meat and Sausage Co.
Bill Sloan , Founder of Swiss Meat and Sausage Co.
The year was 1954. Bill had just returned home to his wife, Margie, after spending 6 years in the US Army. He immediately returned to doing what he loved best, working in the meat industry. He was hired by A & P Supermarket, to work in the meat department in KIrkwood, MO. He later transferred over to Kennedy’s IGA Supermarket in Manchester.
This was before there was pre-packaged meats! All meat was cut and ground daily for display in casses that stretched out across 72 feet of store space with 12 butchers behind the counters. Every customer took a number and was personally waited on by each butcher. Bill was a favorite butcher of many customers!
It didn’t take long before he was promoted to head meat cutter. Bill worked many long hours but still managed to spend some time with Margie and their five children which they now had!Bill was quite the entrepreneur and took advantage of every opportunity. Hence, the big move to Swiss, Mo in 1965 to take over the Swiss Country Store and Service Station from Margie’s parents. By the Grace of God, Bill’s perseverance, and with help from family and many employees throughout the years, Swiss Meat & Sausage Co.  has grown into a destination frequented by hundreds every year to obtain some of the best sausages and smoked meats in the industry!

SWISS MEAT & SAUSAGE CO.  Lunch Special

January is National Soup Month
One of my favorite things is to enjoy a warm bowl of soup on a cold winter day.

Soup has been traced back as far as 6000 B.C.,   We know the early Greeks sold soup on the streets and in the market place. Soup was made mostly of just broth and sold with bread calling it “Sop”  because the consumer would soak or sop the bread in the broth. Today with the addition of other ingredients there are hundreds of variations of soup.
