New York is home to some of the best wineries and cideries, and the New York Wine Classic highlights the many craft beverages our local producers have to offer. Known as “The Oscars” of New York wine competitions, the Classic is organized by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and is open to the more than 440 New York wineries across the state. This year’s competition included 924 individual entries: 853 New York wines and 71 hard ciders from several regions across New York State including Central New York, Finger Lakes, Lake Champlain, Lake Erie, Long Island, Hudson Valley, Niagara Escarpment, Thousand Islands, and Upper Hudson Valley. A total of 40 Double Gold, 49 Gold, 324 Silver, and 334 Bronze medals were awarded.
The first ever Governor's Cider Cup was awarded to Kite & String's "Pioneer Pippin" cider, which was also awarded “Best Heritage Cider.”
The "Winery of the Year" award is presented to the winery with the best overall showing, and this year was awarded to Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery. In addition, the 2016 Dr. Frank Blaüfrankisch won the “Best Red Wine” award and Double Gold.

Featured Products

2016 Dr. Konstantin Frank, Blaüfrankish, Keuka Lake

Also known as Lemberger, this wine has medium intensity with dominant characters of blackberry, plum, black cherry and chickory and toasted rye. The fresh acidity makes it feel lighter on the palate.

Kite & String, Pioneer Pippin Cider, Cayuga Lake

This barely off-dry traditional-method sparkling highlights the Pioneer Crab and Newtown Pippin varieties. The 10 g/L RS are beautifully balanced with crisp crabapple acidity and tannin.
