The candy-binge is over and the costumes are tucked away but the mad dash to the holiday season has only just begun. Take a deep breath and pencil in some festive dates on the calendar, get a few gifts wrapped and tucked away, and sign up for a cooking class or two to put a dash of extra confidence in your carefully planned out menus! Chef Kelly is sharing a holiday recipe that you can make as early as this week for your Thanksgiving table.
 
The 9th annual Ladies Night Out is always a fabulous way to jump start your holiday shopping; it's a night filled with special goodies and fun from the boutiques around town and Marcel's will be bursting with delicious deals. From elegant and whimsical sweets to savory delights and wine, our gift boxes this year are brimming with holiday cheer. We are excited to welcome the country's most sought-after expert on spices, Lior Lev Sercarz, to Marcel's for an interactive evening in the Marcel's kitchen. Don't miss this opportunity!

TRUNK SHOW
Explore the luxurious and festive patterns for fall and the holiday from Garnier-Thiebaut at our semi-annual trunk show. We are excited to introduce their hotel collection; amazing prices but the same beautiful quality in classic and elegant white and ivory patterns. Everything in stock and all special orders will be 20% off; all orders will arrive in time for your Thanksgiving table.
 
Gather your girlfriends and kick-off your holiday shopping in style at over 20 Glen Ellyn boutiques. Stop by Marcel's for beautiful gifts for the kitchen, home, table and pantry. Join the country's most sought-after expert on spices and their origins for an interactive evening in the Marcel's kitchen. Enjoy a glass of wine and a taste of his creations while he engages you in an educational discussion of spices and blends. He will sign copies of The Spice Companion, his definitive guide to spices with stunning photography and hundreds of fresh ideas and tips. Finally, Lior will set up a spice bar and invite you to create a custom spice blend to take home! $25 for the event only or $60 with pre-purchase of The Spice Companion.  All books to be signed must be purchased at Marcel's or The Bookstore.
 
SAT, NOV 20th (12 - 4 PM): SHINE HANDMADE TRUNK SHOW
Join us for an afternoon with Janet Catlow, talented designer behind Shine Handmade table toppers and runners. Uniquely beautiful fabric combinations, expert craftsmanship and small-scale local production make Shine linens shine! Enjoy 20% OFF all designs the day of the trunk show!
 
FRI, NOV 25th (6 - 9 pm): HOLIDAY WALK
Kick off the holiday season by joining the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce at the annual Holiday Walk! The downtown comes alive with thousands of villagers awaiting the arrival of Santa and the lighting of the Christmas tree at this treasured Glen Ellyn tradition. Join Santa at 6 pm at the corner of Main and Crescent to watch him light the tree. Afterwards, join us at Marcel's for Chef Kelly's mini grilled cheese sandwiches, roasted tomato soup, hot mulled cider and an assortment of homemade cookies. Pop into Marché for raclette! Both Marcel's + Marché will be open until 9 pm. Keep an eye on your email for Black Friday specials!
 

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
 
Enjoy this recipe for your holiday table from Executive Chef Kelly Sears; we love this because you can make this relish now to alleviate some of the stress the week of Thanksgiving! It is a beautiful addition to a cheese plate, as a substitute or addition to cranberry sauce and makes fabulous leftover turkey sandwiches!

Autumn Harvest Relish
Recipe adapted from Kevin West
 
5 pounds apples (assorted variety), peeled and cut into 1/2 inch cubes
2 cups cranberries
2 cups turbinado sugar
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1 cup chopped figs
1 cup sweet onion, small dice
2 sweet peppers, seeded, small dice
2-3 jalapeños, seeded, small dice
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 tablespoons mustard seeds
1 teaspoon garam masala
2 teaspoons Darjeerling tea
 
Combine all the ingredients in a deep pot and bring to a boil. Moderate the heat and reduce for as long as an hour to an hour and a half, until the excess liquid boils away and what remains is a thick jam-like texture. Taste at several points and adjust the flavor. Chutney should be deeply flavored and complex with at least a bit of spicy heat.
 
If canning, process for 10 minutes.
