Marcels Culinary Experience
It's the height of summer and we've got some exciting things happening around town and in Marcel's! First there's Jazz Up Glen Ellyn. If it's anything like it was last year, you won't want to miss the amazing live music and good time.
 
Next, we move on to the annual Glen Ellyn Sidewalk Sale with deals, deals, and more deals to be had. Shop around town and score some amazing finds. But July also brings a month long promotion on all BBQ sauces and rubs at Marcel's. Stop in, pick up a sauce, rub, or salt and get smoking or grilling. Nothing says summer like a good old fashion BBQ!
 
We've got some new finds we want to share with you from Schmidt Bros, Sugarfina, and KitchenAid, along with some fun new classes. And read all about Brandy Fernow, our new chef in the Marcel's kitchen!
 
It's not only hot outside, it's HOT at Marcel's as well! So stop in, say hello, and let us share with you all the fun happenings and finds we have going on.
JULY EVENTS & HAPPENINGS
Presented by the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn and the Village of Glen Ellyn, this event is sure to be a rollicking good time. Grab a few friends, some chairs, a picnic basket, bottles of your favorite beverages, and join in the fun.
 
The event features:
 
  • 8 Jazz acts playing continuously from 2 - 9:30 pm
  • A festive atmosphere where you can bring in your own picnic (including adult beverages!), sit in the chairs provided or bring your own
  • Want to get a beer or glass of wine from one of the establishments on the block (Main St between Penn and Crescent)? You can do that and bring it outside on the street!
  • 5 of the Jazz acts will be playing in local restaurants after hours and several will be offering clinics during the day
  • And the event is FREE!

GETTING TO KNOW BRANDY FERNOW
Introducing Brandy Fernow, the newest chef in the Marcel's and Maison kitchen!
 
A gift of cooking lessons from her husband prompted Brandy to leave her career as a consultant for Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young to train at Kendall College where she earned her culinary degree. Brandy has a passion for teaching cooking classes, having taught at Parties That Cook, Sur La Table, Flavour Cooking School, and her alma mater, Kendall College, where she developed the curriculum for, and led, their recreational cooking school program. She enjoys the connection made around food and the energy from the excitement of guests as they create and enjoy food together.
 
We are excited to welcome Brandy to the Marcel's family and invite you to share in her passion and joy of cooking in the hands on cooking classes Brandy will be teaching in the Marcel's kitchen!
 
What’s your guilty pleasure food? Gummy ANYTHING! From Swedish Fish to Gummy Worms, I am a connoisseur of all things chewy and sugary.
 

What’s the most underrated cooking ingredient? Salt! Salt is a flavor enhancer – without it, food is one-dimensional. Learning the balance of seasoning with salt is a key skill in the kitchen.

 

Three items always in your refrigerator: Limes, eggs and squeezable yogurt (yep I have 2 kids)

 

What music do you listen to when you cook? My parents had 1000’s of records and I grew up on the classics – thanks to Pandora, I enjoy Zeppelin, The Eagles and other greats while I cook!
