~ Know your Zone ~
This makes a difference in whether plants, trees and shrubs used in your landscaping will be able to survive and thrive year after year.
In 2023, the USDA changed the zone for most cities in the Boise area to 7a. However, depending on your elevation, your area may still behave more like 6b. What is the difference? The average low temperatures in these zones fall between:
6b: -5⁰F and 0⁰F
7a: 0⁰F and 5⁰F
7b: 5⁰F and 10⁰F
Further up in the hills, the average low temperatures continue to drop. Areas like Cascade and McCall are classified as zone 5a, averaging an annual low temperature between -15⁰F and - 20⁰F.
At Madeline George, our outdoor plants are selected for their ability to thrive in our area and are classified for zone 6b or lower.
